SS Rohm Dagger - E.P. & S.
Hi,
I was hoping someone could look at these pictures and confirm which dagger I have. This was brought back from WWII by my wife's grandfather, a US Army Captain. Before passing away he asked me to keep this for our family. He said he was given this dagger by a Nazi officer after he surrendered. Unfortunately I don't have anymore details than that short fact.
I began reading online to learn about the dagger and quickly realized how many versions (both real and fake) exist. So I thought I'd post these pictures for anyone to provide their best opinions. I have no desire to sell this, but I would like to be accurate when sharing this with family members regarding it's history.
I hope the pictures come through with enough detail. I will post more if needed.
Thank you,
Stephen

The first thing I see is the Grip eagle has been replaced with a NSDAP eagle stick pin eagle... the grip fits extremely poorly to the guards... the "Meine Ehre heisst Treue" doesn't look "right" (might be the angle on the photo) on the face of the blade... and the pitting on the blade and "red rust" on the sheath all look "chemically enhanced"....
Also no gruppe mark, no serial no. (many, but not all, were!)...
At fist glance, I have many serious problems with what I'm seeing... needs to be seen by someone "in hand"... but not looking promising...
No "Nazi officer" would have had his dress dagger "with him" to surrender ... these were really prewar items that would not have gone to the "front".... so the story is pretty weak (but typical GI story... nobody ever "took it out of a house"... always "taken from a Nazi officer".)
Can't help more... but if original... badly played with to say the least....

(Didn't see it was your fist post)...
Historical info. on the dagger:
SS Rohm Presentation Dagger... presented by Rohm to SS members who had been members of the SS in good standing prior to Dec. 31, 1931 (9,900 authorized awards)...(SS was still "part" of the SA at this time).
After Rohme's murder/execution most SS members removed Rohm's name or the entire inscription.... thus any with the full inscription is quite rare (and thus heavily copied)...

Re: SS Rohm Dagger - E.P. & S.
I'm not sure. At first, I agreed with John, and still lean that way. However, the grip eagle resembles the so-called initial run of "Christmas Daggers" given to higher ranking party members. As far as I know, those were all of the SA variety, and produced by Eickhorn.
One of the things I DO like about this dagger is the slender, rounded shape of the grip, which is peculiar to Pack.
WHo knows?

Never heard of the "Christmas Daggers" with the M29 style eagle... that might change things... I'm not a dagger specialist.... all mine were stolen back in 1969 (had most, inc. chained SS & chained NSKK... but never had the heart or money to start over...) so have just bought and sold what's come my way...
Even an old dog can learn... thanks for the information.

Re: SS Rohm Dagger - E.P. & S.
Text: "There were 200 of these Röhm daggers, originally given by Röhm to his early best buddies".
But "Christmas Daggers", it would be a SA dagger with the SA motto " Alles für Deutschland" instead "Ulles für Deutschland".
As John G. said, I found mixed parts in this dagger ( The early eagle and SS botton for example, looks removed and changed ).

This is great conversation and learning opportunity for me. Would anyone suggest that I have someone look at it in person, and if so any recommendations?

Stephen, I can help. Any chance we can take the discussion offline?
