WW2 US Uniform Questions

#1

Post by mcplaya99 » 17 Aug 2016, 06:06

I just bought this at an antique store, it's tag is gone. It is ETO command patch and it has the philipines liberation ribbon. It alao has the distinguished unit citation which I don't think a command would get.

The PI Liberation ribbon is likely added on. But the DUC patch could easily be correct. Remember at the end of the war many men were transferred between units.

Low Point men to replace High Point men going home to bring units up to strength.

Front line Dogfaces injured sent to rear area units when no longer fit for Infantry duty. I recently read a book of a Infantryman in the Ardennes who after being wounded and sent through the Infamous 10th Replacement at Litchfield was fobbed off on a London based Signals unit of ETOUSA to finish out the war.

Take the ribbons off, replace with proper ETO ribbons (i.e.: Army Good Conduct, ETO Campaign, WW 2 Victory, for example)... don't over do it and use only WW2 ribbon bars (straight pins)....

Realistically, Tunic, pants, shirt and tie are worth $35.00 to $75.00 depending on the dealer....

But were any transferred so as to have been in the ETO and still get to PI in time to be in the window for the liberation award?

The Advanced Sector of Supply patch would only be worn on that sleeve while assigned to that unit.... which was restricted to the ETO. If he served in the Pacific later, he would wear a different patch on that sleeve. He COULD have served in the Pacific before being transferred to the European theater... which would make the uniform proper with the ADSEC patch- not usual but certainly happened.

Many men who contracted Malaria in the Pacific were sent to Europe after treatment for medical reasons... still say the Phillipine Liberation ribbon is probably added... NOT with the ADSEC patch on that sleeve!
