ASW indicates the manufacturer was E. & F. Hoerster, Solingen, while the 44 indicates 1944. It appears to be a nice example of the normal Mauser 98 bayonet. Aside from that I really cannot tell you much.

In that condition my guess is that it is worth a minimum of $220.00. Bayonets in such fine condition are hard to find. The blade should NOT have been sharpened if it is indeed untouched. I have been looking for ANY 1944 date bayonet to go with a k98 that I have in similarly like-new and matching condition.

Agree, nice bayonet....I'd say price range of $150.00 to $250.00 without a frog.... "retail value".

NEED BETTER PHOTO SHOWING MATCH

Your photo and story about being locked up new is not good proof yet. Better photos please. There are inconsistencies with the letter code for 1944 and no blade phosphate.
PRICE: $45

Sorry "Colonel666", but you're completely off base!.... nothing wrong with this bayonet except for it's being 5 years since originally posted!..... the letter code and date, grips, and finish are all consistant.... and this is the condition collectors want....not broken, bent, pitted garbage...Your "price" is also ridiculous....even a Yugo. rework in this condition would be worth "more" than that!

If you're going to "Post" here on the AHF.... have some basic knowledge of what you're talking about and the artifacts you're dealing with. Please stop the phsyo-babble and worthless commentary or incorrect/incomplete information. Being mistaken is one thing.... being ignorant is also no crime as long as you keep an open mind and willing to learn from those here willing to assist. We'll help if you want to learn....

Nothing personal....but this is a serious, adult historical forum.....not the place for idle speculation or physo-fantasies.

The photo request is important to actually see the "matching" serial numbers clearly. They are not clearly shown on the bayonet itself.
My price is fair and I do have reference to a collector in Canada that sells these K98 with scabbard at $45 retail and is not in shortage. There are many millions of these Type3 bayonets. They are quite common but I'm sure adored by many.
I do have experience and confront people who don't know me very well yet at other forums before. Don't much appreciate being called "ignorant" by you or anyone else. My help is more valuable than you consider.

Colonel666,
When you state incorrect information or make ridiculous statements..... as Co-moderator of this section, I'll call you on it.... I didn't call you ignorant...that was a general statement saying we're all ignorant about some things....the only fault is not keeping an open mind and not being willing to learn. If you want to contribute... your welcome.... but more confrontation and additude won't get you far....with me, or here at the forum.

All I need from this topic is to see the better photo of the matching numbers. It is you the co-moderator that knows that it is responsibility of the member who began topic to respond to replies from other members like me.
