Any ideas on current values (even Ebay prices) and the fact the leather strap has long gone? Thanks Mark

You call it "Stirnpanzer"....isn't it a "regular "Coalschuttle" (WW1 German helmet) browplate? (Often called a "Machinegunner's Prow plate"...but I've never heard this name for one)..is this differant (I've seen the Berdorfer browplate, so I know there are variations).....Obviously it's been repainted more than once, which hurts it more than no strap. Certianly looks like a legit one (there are many repros now....) but I've only owned one, so not positive eitherway. Assuming it is "good", it should still be worth $150/250./350.00 as is, and on ebay (auction site)...who knows? Of course a "nice untouched original with a strap" can be well over a $1,000.00....(w/out a helmet)....., if you have the "right buyer"...thing is, the "serious" WW 1 collectors/helmet specialist.....pretty much "have one" or would only want an "untouched" one, w/strap....and the weight makes them alittle bit of a display-problem, which I'm sure you know what I mean....

Depending on what you have invested in the "browplate/ armoured helmet shield" .....I'd give myself a reasonable profit (opening bid) and put it on ebay.....best chance of real interest and having a bidding war and doing "real well"......and you're letting the market set a fair price.....(also perfect item for site like ebay).....
Good luck,
John G.
PS: "Everything is "IMO" , of course...and not carved in stone or anything. Also see what anyone else has to say....
I might also consider "paint removal", too (looks like some original finish may remain) but that's an indivigual choice issue...and not the question here!.....and always 'risky' business....

John thanks and good advice. I received as is so perhaps I will remove the paint. It is 100% original but clearly no leather retaining strap. Some have repro straps but will leave this as is. Stirnpanzer is the German description for this.
Besy wishes,
Mark

Thought I would offer some images of armour and brow plates.
