SS license plate

First please accept my apology if I have unwittingly made a mistake or committed a faux pas in this post. I have never posted anywhere. I am seeking the origin of a license plate owned by friend that has the following on it SS 40430. While I have no knowledge of the subject at all, I am curious. As the original owner (my friends father), was in Germany during the war and a member of the OSS (I believe), it occurs to me the plate may be real. Any assistance would be be greatly appreciated. I would need to see pictures of the plate. Also there are many variations of plates to thats why the pictures would help.
