This Bayonet was left to me by my uncle, it was passed down from my Grandfather who was stationed in Germany After the War.
Can anyone help me decipher the etching please?

Basic translation "Fur Erinnerung an meine Dienstzeit Stab. III / 20 IR. Deggendorf".....

"In Memory of my Service time- Staff III / 20th Infantry Regt. (Deggendorf)"

The 20th IR was part of the 10th Infantry Division Pre-war, fought in Poland & France. In 1941 Reformed as the 10th Motorized Inf. Div., then as the 1oth Panzer Grenadier Division....

For complete history....check the Axis History Factbook (here!).

These engraved dress bayonets were privately purchased and intended as "keepsakes" or "presentations"......... unusual (?) PUMA marking with "stamped" "Solingen" ..... however, appears to be a nice example!

Appreciate you taking the time to help me out John! This site is huge and a true wealth of information.
I am curious about the Puma marking, i saw two similar Puma Solingen etched bayonets on snyders treasures.
I am not sure how reputable they are but to the novice such as me they appear legit. What is it about the marking that is odd?

The PUMA trademark itself is the typical prewar marking....the "stamped" Solingen appears "an after-thought" .....but is known in this style.

Finding similiar examples on "Snyders" website can often be the kiss of death 8O ....as he has many reproduction and overpriced items on his website...... I'm not enough of a blade expert to say for sure...but yours appears o.k. based on what little is shown.

Very nice....yours still has the red felt plug in the "slot" (only 10% remain intact if that!)..... the frog appears to be a regular service type for dismounted personnel (without grip straps), not a dress version....but not unusual to find this combination.
Nice Engraved Bress bayonet......

There are a few other edged weapons that were given to me. One is a swedish theater knife and sheath with crude aluminum cast handle but long 9" double sided blade(sharpest knife i have seen), said to be made from the steel of a large saw blade nearer to the end of the war when steel was hard to find. The other is a Collins Heartford 1005 Engineer Machete from around WWI, and a few well worn U.S. bowie knives.

Interesting story,
My Grandfather was stationed in Germany after the war for 4-5 years. He had acquired a few German Lugers, he greased them up and wrapped them in grease and oil soaked rags, then buried them, he was going to return at a later date to get them, when he did eventually return to retrieve them an airport runway had been built over top of the location and he was never able to find them....
