Police-Officer's Sword
Back in the early '70's, I acquired a Police Officers Sword. My question is, why is the handle on the sword brown, instead of black? I've seen brown before, but the majority seems to be black, so I don't know why?

Re: Police-Officer's Sword
Hey Fred,
to be honest, the grip of the sword looks worn out or hackneyed. Often leather was coloured with black so the original colour could be black and was only used very often.

Fred,
Maverick is correct....over-cleaning or over-handling have worn the "black" from the grip (not unusual).... you can see black traces that remain in the photo. Do you have the sheath?

Re: Police-Officer's Sword
Thank you, John! Yes, I have the sheath as well. A second question…at the same time I aquired the sword, I also aquired a Police un-slotted bayonette (see below). What bothers me is that, a couple of the "dots" that surround the center of the eye seem to be missing! Is this something to be concerned with?

Re: Police-Officer's Sword
Missing dots are not a problem... nice matching numbered (unit marked) unslotted dress "bayonet"...
