XIX Century German Kepi (or other) Help please.
XIX Century German Kepi (or other) Help please.
Hi again.
Also I've got this very nice looking red forage kepi. It's coming from Germany (on it's way...)
Not sure if it's from an unit, year, or maybe civil organization ... or military student.
Any help will be much appreciated. it has two letters on the top HB... or HT.. embroidered in gold...
German? American maybe?... doing the round trip back to the states?
Thanks in advance gents.

Yes. Yes. Seller said that someone was trying to restore the liner... very bad job.
For me it's a beautiful item, aesthetically. Problem is I cannot point what civic (80% sure) or military service this applies to.
And more interestingly, is coming from Germany. But I'm pretty sure the germans didnt have this kind of forage caps... but I could easily be wrong.

This specific form of headgear is called "Stürmer" (English hotspur) and was worn by high-school graduates, especially in East-Prussia and still is worn by some student fraternities in Germany.
Example of a high-school graduate from Königsberg wearing a Stürmer

Example of a studentic Stürmer, here Kaiser Bill depicted as an alumni of Corps Borussia Bonn
Source: http://de.academic.ru/dic.nsf/dewiki/282853
The student Stürmer is kept simpler with less stitchery and has a so called "Zirkel" on its front so I would say your Kepi is from a high-school graduate, not from a student fraternity brother.

Helmut
