Is this authentic?

Post by zemog13 » 27 Nov 2014, 08:00

Can anyone tell me if this is authentic and if so what it's history is, i.e. who would have carried it and when? It is 13.5 inches tall and weighs 502 grams. Is it of any value?

I think is a fake flag pole top.
Fantasy design.

I'd want much better pictures before I ruled this flag pole top a fake. It is an unusual type & design, but that alone doesn't make it a fake. I'd also ask on more "artifact- orientated" forums..... with a wider collector bases.... for their opinions.

I see nothing to rule it out, yet.... (or "in" either!)... better photos needed showing detail (front & back)...., lets see the "pole cup"...., is it marked?
Is there a story behind it? Where did "you" find it? All could be important clues to it's origins...

If right.... an interesting flag pole top... would certainly be of interest... thus have decent value.

It would be typical of a banner or guidon head-piece. The Nazi's use 1000's in their parades.
Would start looking at old photos to see if the design was at all common.

Looked at many , none that similar. I would tend to agree it is not authentic, the lack of an eagle , and/or that bat looking bird below the wreath, does not lend itself to make this item genuine.

Bigger or more detailed pics should be available. This could also be an original of an unofficial flag top. Many were in use, in the time between the wars in every small german village there were WW1-veteran- or patriotic music- associations or gun clubs which were all highly affiniated with the German Empire and patriotic thru and thru ( except the communists, e.g. "Rotes Frontbanner", they loved the USSR)

Only this kind of parade could have such flag pole tops.
( Munich Day of German Art 1939 ).
