Has anyone seen a gun bag like this before?

I took it to a gun show last week and it became a topic of much debate... the prevailing opinion was possibly Italian, perhaps pre WWII?? It has writing on it that looks Arabic so we assumed at some point it spent time in the middle east. Two additional small compartment pockets are sewed into the back inside... one compartment is long and thin as if for a barrel and the second is almost handgun shaped (If you look closely you can see the stitching outlining the shape of the pockets in the back-side photo). It's only 36" long so I've been using it with my M1 Carbine. My carbine fits almost perfectly in length with a fair amount of extra room in width. Any ideas?
