Polish Uniform Portraits and ID
Re: Polish Uniform Portraits
I recently came into possession of my grandmother's uncle who served. I'm told it is a Polish uniform. His name was Wasyl Salamak. Does anyone recognize any of the three insignias on his chest are? Any info available about the unit he was serving in...4 (something), 6 Company out of Cieszyn?
Re: Polish Uniform Portraits
4. P.S.P. stands for 4 Pułk Strzelców Podhalańskich (4th Podhalan Rifles Regiment) that used to station in Cieszyn. Please pay attention to Podhalan Rifles distinctive emblems - collar tabs and eagle feather in cap.pgsabol wrote:I recently came into possession of my grandmother's uncle who served. 'Insignias' on the chest are (as I see them):
top - Odznaka grenadiera
bottom left - most probably Odznaka Strzelecka, I can't tell what colour (probably bronze one)
bottom right - Państwowa Odznaka Sportowa, I can't tell what colour (probably bronze one)
4 pspodh enthusiasts' website, unfortunately in Polish only.

Hello,
Is it possible that any of the POWs in the second photo are Polish? I'm yet leaning toward French, but I once thought that the leather coats looked Polish.
regards,
John

The top inscript is Strzelec what means shooter but in the army it´s the rank "private".

Re: Polish Uniform Portraits
I am trying to find information on my dad in the Polish Army. I think this was around 1939 maybe. Any info would be greatly appreciated. I am also trying to find information about him and his family and am up a brick wall. Thanks.

Re: Polish Uniform Portraits
I have more but will need to find and gather them to post. I also have some artifacts he had (clothes brush with a hidden compartment) if interested.

the jacket looks like the same as the one my dad is wearing in the uniform I submitted earlier.PolAntek wrote:Sold recently for about $1150 US - but sadly not to me . A very nice original example of a wz.36 infantry captain's tunic. The original officer's name is marked on a label inside the pocket. A remarkable find - and certainly very scarce if not rare.
Re: Polish Uniform Portraits
I thought the clothes brush was with the secret compartment but it is just what he brought over with him. (can psot if any one is interested in seeing it..just ask) Here are the rest of the photos I came up with from era 1936 in Poland

Re: Polish Uniform Portraits
rdywenur I would appreciate a closer look to the first picture. The order is Virtuti Militari - Silver Cross, IMHO. Take a look here:http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Virtuti_Militari
All recipients of VM, you should find your father mentioned:

Re: Polish Uniform Portraits
I'd say it looks more like regimental badge. It was most often worn directly on pocket, as seen on picture. Mounted Artillery? 62 Infantry Regiment? Better scan would be handy.history1 wrote:rdywenur I would appreciate a closer look to the first picture. The order is Virtuti Militari - Silver Cross, IMHO.

Re: Polish Uniform Portraits
Njorl I agree with your statement that a better image will help.
Anyway I think that I can make out two bars on his shoulder tabs, so he´s an officer in the rank of pułkownik (colonel) to major (major). Verly likely that he´s wearing this high decoration.
Maybe we will see other pictures to be sure?
