OK OK OK. It appears from all the posts that the Hitler knives we all possess are reproductions made by various makers POST 1945. However, a careful look at the knife design clearly shows an early 1930s Nazi style motif -- the "Deutschland Erwacht" especially indicates this. Therefore, I will posit that all our Hitler knives are REPRODUCTIONS of an original Nazi design -- NOT FANTASY knives. The knives may have been originally designed for electioneering propaganda. User "pinknife's" earlier explanation seems plausible. Whether or not the knives were actually distributed is unknown. I would like to see the Mussolini version of the knife to compare the style to the Hitler version and maybe help explain the Hitler version better.

Ok. I did some research and found the folks on the knifeforum site have the same questions we have about the knife. I have a couple pics they show on that site. I still hold by my original argument -- these knives are repros -- not fantasies. The "Reichkanzler" knife is interesting. It leads me to believe our Hitler knife was designed in 1931 or 1932 because the Reichkanzler design was used in 1933 when AH took power. Again, these are Nazi designs - but the design was not produced for distribution. Not sure why. As for Solingen Germany -- even the Germans in post 1945 reproduced the knife. However, they must have had the original steel dies to produce the design the first time! The Mussolini knife is also a well done repro but it does not change my mind about the Hitler knife. Dating the Mussolini design is more difficult The design of the Mussolini knife was done by a different person also. It asks more questions than answers.

Just an insert:
I have an "authentic" Hitler Jugend knife. I removed the "made in china" (just buffed it out), so it would not confuse anyone :P As I was many moons ago in the H.J., it must be the real mc.Coy right ?
I also have an SS dagger, the "made in china" also has been buffed out.
Both of them are in an "as new" condition.
Any takers ? :P
