[Split from "British Union of Fascists items wanted"]

Hi Kristijan,

Can't help you with any BUF pieces, I only have a few items myself which are not for sale.

Do you know that there is a new book about to be published very soon called:

'Mosley's Men in Black: Uniforms,Flags and Insignia of the British Union of Fascists 1932-1940 & Union Movement'

This will be the only reference book on this subject worth owning. Keep an eye on Amazon, they have it listed already.

Regards.

post-war badge

Someone is selling some Mosley badges on ebay, included is what is described as a 1970's Union Movement badge.. Can anyone tell me if this is genuine or just a recent copy, as the flash looks wrong. There is also a red, blue and silver badge which is supposed to be a from an original pre-war dye, however, once again the flash is strange.

Hello helmsman,

Stay well away from these badges, they are quite obviously modern fakes. And any badge that is classed as made from 'an original pre-war dye' is not, in my opinion, worth spending any money on.
Save your money until you get the chance to buy a genuine piece from the correct period in time.

I have seen this Flash & Circle cut-out stick pin...the Flash in just too wide to be genuine.

Also seen a BUF shield badge, again another fake, and a poor one at that..

The enamel appeared to be sunken into the badge instead of laying smooth and flat, and the fasces emblem in the middle was not very well defined and it looked to be coloured silver, which it should not be.

Ebay may be good for certain things, I always find that you can pick up very interesting books at a great price, but for this kind of badge, don't bother wasting your money here.

Regards.

Thanks Claymore, you more or less confirmed what I thought.

I have a chrome flash & circle lapel badge but it's nothing like the one on ebay, the problem is that if you haven't seen a badge you know 100% for sure that's it's an original, there is no yardstick to compare it with. To be fair the seller on ebay states that the shield badge is 'probably' a commemorative piece, but did such a thing ever apear. If as he says these badges were produced in the 1970's/1980's then why haven't they been seen before, in the time I've been collecting I've visited numerous militaria fairs etc, but this is the first time I've seen any of this design.

Thanks for showing us the badge Kristijan.

With so many fakes floating around it's nice to see an original piece for a change!
