Full marks ! The misnaming was a typographical error by an Admiralty clerk, I believe.
One of the crew, P.O. Charles E. Linkhorn, killed, was married to Olga Mihailovna, and had a son Michael. As British subjects, they were interned by the Japanese in Yangchow Camp " C " 1943-45. I was similarly interned in that Camp. The reference is to be found
in " Captives of Empire", Greg Leck, p.699

in response to my own question of 31 October:

Ji Lin was laid down as "Hanyo" and completed by the Japanese as "Seiten." Returned post-war to China and named "ji Lin"

Chong Ning was laid down as "Tu Ning" and completed by the Japanese as "Chikubu." Returned post-war to China and named "Chong Ning."

Hello "sjchan"
Of course You are right! In the night 17./18.08.1937. 3 torpedo-boats (Thornycroft) № 1-3 (№4 took not part = damaged. She (Idzumo) was not hit, but damaged. Next day stand on the Jangtsy-Kiang the river-gunship "Atami" (1x76).
You turn

Hello, Mischa!
Up to now I've found only one French torpedoboat lost in crash - L'Espignol - but, according to the data I have, she was lost in 1903. :?

Best regards, Aleks

Hello Aleks,
it was not a crash it was a tsunami on that date. Here a picture after that bad night. The other show us on her better days.

With some valuable outside help :) I at last can produce the correct answer.
