Re: Two photos: Weapons ID?
I don't think there is diagreement that there were Chauchats chambered for 8mm Lebel in China - especially with regional units in places like Yunnan bordering French Indochina. It was only a case of pointing out mislabeling of a photo based on a "fixed property" of rimmed cartridges not suited for large capacity straight magazines.
The 8mm Lebel is actually an extreme case. Quite apart from having a rimmed case, the base of the case is also wider than the neck which makes it almost impossible to feed from a straight magazine.
Comparison between the 8mm Lebel and the straight, rim-less 7.92mm Mauser round
The problem is so great with the 8mm Lebel that even the 3-round and 5-round clips had to be curved
This is a good comparison between the curved 5-round clip of 8mm Lebel with rimmed and tapered cases with a straight 5-round stripper clip of rimless 7.92mm Mauser rounds:
The new photo you posted is clearly a Hotchkiss Mle 1922 using the strip feed. The strip magazine is above the bipod.
ZB53 was a manufacturer's designation (modified from ZB50 to improve reliability). The Czech Army purchased the ZB53 and their designation is Vz.37 (Vz = Vzor = model 1937).
Sometimes, the designation is given as ZB. vz 37 - i.e. ZB53 is the same gun as Vz 37 a.k.a. ZB vz 37.
I don't know if there was ever a gun produced under the factory designation ZB37 ...

Re: Two photos: Weapons ID?
Thank you very much. Have learned a lot this time.
BTW, I wonder if ZB26 is the manufacturer's designation or the army's designation?

Re: Two photos: Weapons ID?
Pleasure. Glad you find this useful.
ZB26 was the manufacturer's designation and ZB vz 26 was the Czechoslovak Army designation ... Model 1926.
Regarding the German 15cm SKC 28 ...
There's actually a single mount preserved at the Cold War Museum at the Stevnfort in Denmark. The gun came from the German pocket battleship Gneisenau. The battery includes two twin turrets ... half of the ship's secondary armament.
Part of the main battery is in Norway ...

Very nice photos. Thanks.
Re: Two photos: Weapons ID?
It is said that these guns were Chinese copies of British Armstrong QF guns in 1890s. I can only found this British gun that is the same cailber and similar structure as those guns in Woosung. Can anyone tell me more about this kind of British QF gun?Sturm78 wrote:Hi all,
Can somebody identify this chinese coastal gun?
According to photocaption the image was taken in Shanghai.
It will be well received any information about Chinese coastal defenses in the 20s and 30s
Image from AXH Forum, Japan at War 1895-1945 section.
