Can anyone elaborate on the events at the new air field at Nanjing and what happened that day. One source Andersson says that the Guangdong pilots there, including the commanding officer of the national air force, defected when word came that a coup (my word) occurred in Guangzhou. The Guangdong pilots destroyed aircraft they could not immediately fly away with.

Than you xiem and welcome to the forum. Reference is to Lennart Andersson and his 2009 A History of Chinese Aviation- Encyclopedia of Aircraft and Aviation in China until 1949. ISBN 978 957 28533 3 7. As reported page 102. Chang Huei-ch'ang with Corsairs and Douglas aircraft fled Nanjing to return to Guangdong. The events with Chin Mingshu and Chen Jitanag are much better known. I apologize, I have not paid attention to who is Gu yingfen? Chang Huei-chang reportedly was commander of the Guomindang air force and as famous in China as Charles Lindberg. Again many thanks for your assistance.

The time is wrong. The Guangdong pilots betrayed Chen jitang and fly away on July 6th,1936.There are about more than 40 pilots. At that time,Chen planed to betray nanking government with Li zongren.

In1936,the air force Commander in Guangdong province is Huang Guangrui(黄光锐)rather than Chang Huei-chang .After the event on July 6th,76 aircrafts also fly away in the morning on July 18th,Then Huang Guangrui left Guangzhou to Hongkong and gave an anouncement that he supported the nanking government.

Thank you Xiem: Let me refocus: In April 1931 was there a failure of Chinese aviators to come together. Did the distinct Guangdong Provincial Air Force destroy or steal craft that had been considered those of the Nanjing regime? Is Andersson unreliable?

Chang Huei-chang leave nanking on May 6th,1931.Then some pilots,Chang's students also went to Guangdong province. But they didn't bring any aircraft. This information is from the memoir of Liu Zhiyan(刘植炎),the commanding officer of the fifth squadron in Guangdong Air Force in June,1931.
