Hello,

here's a picture of Col. Wagner

Source:
Reile, Oskar

License edition by Weltbild Verlag; Augburg; 1989
picture plates between p.236 and 237

Post-war (1980, 1983) pictures of Otto Wagner can be found at http://www.my-roots.org/start/persons/s ... 04bb13da06

WAGNER, Otto. c.1940 Maj., sent to Sofia by Abwehrstelle Wien. 01.04.41 Maj. in OKW/Abwehr III. 01.09.41 promo to Obstlt. 1943-44 Oberst and Leiter K.O. Bulgarien. 06.44 Oberst and Leiter K.d.M. Ungarn (to 10.44).

WAGNER, Otto. 01.10.43 promo to Maj.(d.R.z.V.). 01.02.45 Maj. and Chef 30.(schw.Flugm.Leit-Kp.)/Ln.-Rgt. 221, a heavy radar plotting and control site named “Stieglitz” located at Hornskrug near Stettin in N Germany.

Question: could these be the same individual? I do not believe the first person was Luftwaffe; at least he appears in no Luftwaffe personnel listings, promotion or decoration lists. Perhaps he was Luftwaffe during World War I but belonged to the Heer during World War II? The second person is definitely Luftwaffe and appears in a number of Luftwaffe documents dated 1943-45. So, do these two just coincidentally have the same name, or is the first the father of the second?

Hi Larry,

I don't think the two persons listed are identical. 'Otto Wagner' was a very common name in those years. The database of the German War Graves Commission (Volksbund Deutsche Kriegsgraberfürsorge http://www.volksbund.de/) has 228 entries for 'Otto Wagner' in the years 1940 - 1946. And that database does not even contain all KIA and MIA cases.

Best regards

Thanks. I knew it was a long shot but it was worth a check!
