Special?

Yes in a way:

They helped a german division once in Russia out of a pocket - as a cavalry they did the old style assault with sword at the carry :)

Dear Hungarist,

These were some model of armour - SPV, tanks, tanquette and armoured car - service in Hungarian 1. Huszár Division

Best regards

Orlov

ps.: I recommended Polish comediodrama directed by Andrzej Munk (classic and distributed in English Subtitles) „EROICA. SYMFONIA BOHATERSKA W DWOCH CZESCIACH" (Eroica. Hero's Symphony in Two Parts) about wartime Poland and short episode with Hungarian soldier 1. Huszár Division (visible only trucks and T-34 as Pz.Kpfw. IV) who stayed at forest near Polish capital at Warsaw's Uprising and communicated to AK. The best is directoral cut - EROICA in THREE PARTS - this is excellent film represent famous Polish School (but very bitter for Poles!). Hungarian are happy and relaxing outside of burning and murdered city... ORDERS IS ORDERS!!!

Hi

I am trying to find a platoon of the Hungarian Army that might have a connection to Oradea (Nagyvarad), posibly something to do with a communication (telephone) unit that operated or had it's base in a hospital, same platoon might have later ended up in Budapest, and later as a bicycle platoon ( posibly in a retreated after the Seige of Budapest) in Austria where they were taken by the Americans.

3. Cavalry Regiment
Regimental HQ garrisoned at Nagyvárad, 3./I garrisoned at Nagyvárad, 3./II garrisoned at Munkács

Organisation as above, however one of the 3./I cavalry companies was garrisoned at Nagy-Szalonta

I am wondering if the above quate would be related to the platoon I am searching.

Any information that might point me in the right direction is wellcomed, unfortunatly I do not know any other details and the facts listed above could be the key to my research.

Cheers,

My father's old Hungarian dictionary gives the following meanings for osztály: section, class, department, share.

So my guess would be that "department" is the most appropriate as Google translates abteilungen as "department".

Hi,

Your father's dictionary is a good one but unfortunately not an adequate one :-)

All the meanings given relate to different civilian aspects of life, whereas in the military jargon "osztály" refers to a unit that comprises multiple companies (i.e. ~ battalion). As far as I know it was used in connection with artillery, cavalry and air force.

Nice !
I would love to make a Huszár impression one day. Took a "horse-driving" course because of it this summer.
If anyone has any more info about that old style sabre attack in Russia ?
