Codreanu's wife

Postby BELANGER Michel Jean on 07 Feb 2007 02:12

Hello,

Can anyone provide me with detailed informations concerning Corneliu Codreanu's wife (born Elena Ilinoiu), such as place & date of birth & death, her family and siblings (if any) as well as the role she played in the Legionary Movement. According to my sources, she was questioned and held in detention on several occasions prior to her husband's assassination. I would also like to know how and when she managed to leave Rumania for Germany, after years of confinement in communist jails.
Finally, a film was made of her wedding with Codreanu (in 1925) and shown in Bucuresti before being seized by the police. Does anyone know whether this film has survived ?

With all my thanks.

My grandmother and mother travelled from Mylau, Germany to Vienna in December 1944 to visit relatives in a civilian refugee camp (which I am trying to identify) who had fled Transylvania in either August or September.

According to my mother, my grandmother and she visited with (Corneliu Zelea) Codreanu's widow at the Hotel Vierjahreszeiten in Vienna during this trip. I am not sure on what the exact connection was, but my grandmother was friends with Codreanu's widow.

My grandmother stayed at the Hotel Kummer and also registered her address on December 28th, 1944 according to Vienna Municipal Magistrate records.

Hope this helps. You now know Codreanu's wife was in Vienna in December, 1944 and was registered at the Four Seasons Hotel.

There is a small private museum of Legionary history in Bucharest run Serban Suru who speaks and writes English passably.
If this email address is still good he can be contacted at: serbansuru@yahoo.com
Also an inquiry sent to: info@nouadreapta.org might bear fruit.
