AA Guns in Romanian service

Postby YAN on 03 Sep 2009 16:04

Hi, I have a list of AA guns used by the Romanian army in 1941 and I dont know if it is correct, please see below,
13.2mm M.1931 (French)
20mmL/70 M.1928 (Swiss)
20mmL/110 M.1938 (German)
25mmL/60 M.1939 (French)
37mmL/89 M.1939 (German)
40mmL/60 M.1936 (Swedish)
75mmL/45 M.1939 (British)
I know that they used more then the list (about 3 or 4 different 75mm) and the German guns may have come late in the war, but has anyone got any data on what amount of each gun the Romanian army had in its arsenal.
Some of the 75mm were used against Russian armour, did they have a AP shell and did it have a similar stat to any other 75mm gun.
Thanks Yan.

Hi Daveh, I have enjoyed the info found on Victors site on many an occasion and his work has been a great help to me over the years, but it gives no numbers of supplied AA guns.
Thanks Yan.

The AP round for the 75 mm guns was named the "Costinescu" round and was introduced in 1942. It was found to be of little use against T34s when fired by the 75 mm field guns (Schneiders). However, the Romanian-made 75 mm AA guns (Vickers) were effective against Russian tanks with the same round.

Hi Dragos, you and Victor have done a great job on your site, going back to the 75mm round. Would you say it had the same capebilities as the 75mm round used by the 75mm Resita M.1943 ATG ?. or on the same lines as the 75mm M.97/38.
Thanks Yan.

The round was the same afaik, but the real effectiveness was of course different for every gun. The Resita M1943 was probably the best 75mm gun of the war, way better than either the old Schneiders and the Vickers AA.

And I'm not that Dragos btw.

When did the 88mm Krupp antiaircraft gun model 1936 come into service with Romanian forces (in what numbers?)?
