We discussed alternative maritime patrol planes and if LW could switch seaplane production over to a couple of planes -as opposed to ½ dozen different types- they would leap at the opportunity....especially if one was a model the LW had already agreed . I got
1939 = 2752t + 300 BMW & 279 Ju 205 = ALTERANATE FLEET 75 CONDOR & 65 BV 138
1940 = 2890t + 259 BMW & 344 Ju 205 = ALTERANATE FLEET 64 CONDOR & 92 BV 138
1941 =1958 t + 115 BMW & 285 Ju 205 = ALTERANATE FLEET 30 CONDOR & 84 BV-138
1942 = 2347 t + 245 BMW & 222 JU-205 = ALTERANATE FLEET 61 CONDOR & 60 BV 138
1943 = 3448 t + 629 BMW & 24 JU-205 = ALTERANATE FLEET 135 CONDOR
Going on 30 planes per year to = a “daily sortie”; that gives you ....
5 sortie per day 1939
5 sortie per day in 1940
4 sortie per day in 1941
4 sortie per day in 1942
4 sortie per day in 1943.
each BV-138 OR CONDOR sortie = 150MPH X 18 Hours X 30NM Sweep = VS Warships OR 40NM VS~108,000NM^2 VS Convoy
~ 80,000NM^2 VS WARSHIPS.
A ten boat Wolf Pack -each day on the surface- could sweep 10 x 150nm per hour x 24 hours = 36,000nm^2 per day Vs warships or 47,000nm^2 per day Vs convoy. Factoring in a periodic GHG sweep- this should double the sweep efficiency to about 75,000nm^2 vs warships or 100,000nm^2 vs convoy.
Each radar equipped surface raider could manage 60 nm radar sweep @ 20 knots x 24 hours or 30,000nm^2 per day .
That's 50 nm radar sweep @ 20 knots x 24 hours or 23,000nm^2 vs warships .
