If the US had remained a part of the Empire, and their was no dispute over tax. At the rate the US was growing does anyone believe that it would still bear colonial status going into the Eighteen hundreds and would a peaceful hand over/de-colonisation be at all possible?

Other points of confrontation would be how the British Empire allow

1. How much representation in Parliament/Government the colonies got or going the other way how much autonomy the colonies would get

2. The colonies to expand westward.

3. How much would they allow the colonies to not just be a source of raw material but to manufacture.

4. How much would the colonies be expected to get involved with various British wars

5. How immigration would be handled from countries outside the Empire

6. A later question would be slavery especially if the British restricted the colonies manufacturing and so slaves being used in raw material supply might be even more then historically. IE, no big manufacturing economy in the North.

Probably other points of dispute as well but this will do for now.

As to being peaceful, that depends on what each side wants and how far they are willing to push it. IE, The colonies get autonomy but keep a British fig leaf of being part of the Empire.
