Re: Type VII
Hi
Noticed 596 has a speaker bracket and 376 and 456 have extra strut on platform, just a thought.

Re: Type VII
Hi
Further ........... according to ubootarchive.de and historiches-marine archive.de, do not give U596 in Kirkenes, on that date
However U 378,U 454 and U 589 were. Pikap also puts a question mark against 589!
Expert advice needed please.
Regards
Nobby

Re: Type VII
Hi Nobby,
help is on its way. Inner boat is clearly a Danzig-Boat. Hence, the correct U-numbers are (from left to right) U 436, U 378, U 209, U 456. Photo must have been taken between 3 and 7 April 1942. Its a famous PK-photography published already during the war.
Cheers
Axel
PS: Football is coming home soon!

Hi,
This free-flooding vents pattern marked in red indicates Blohm & Voss shipyard (besides U 589 I also considered U 591 and U 592).
vents on U 436 pattern marked in green can be seen on boats from number U 374 to U 377.
U 378 (in the middle) had no those vents Regards
Pikap

Re: Type VII
Hi all,
I am happy to say that Pikap is correct as far as U 376 is concerned. It cannot be U 378 for reasons given by him. KTB U 376 says boat alongside Südmeer. So thanks Pikap for this correction.
Regarding U 436, I am glad to say that I did not mess this up also. In the green circle on the photo posted by Pikap, the particular flooding vent is obscured by the iced-up line running in front of it, which gives the appearance of a B&V-Boat. But the deck railing in front of the conningtower and the loudspeaker fixation at the wintergarden identifies it is a Danzig boat.
In addition, I checked the KTB's in the meantime. For U 436 it says alongside SÜDMEER from 24 March till 6 April. Similar for U 376 and U 209. U 589 made fast alongside LÜDERITZ and was never alongside SÜDMEER. U 456 is out of question.
Nobby, thought you are a supporter of the 'Three Lions' ! Anyway, Wales is also most welcome.
Cheers
Axel
