Type IX
Re: Type IX
Hi Nobby,
This was a very difficult one .
U 68 under Albert Lauzemis arrival in Lorient on 16-06-1943 entering the Scorff-Bunker.The river behind U 68 called ``Port de Guerre``.
She was only five days at sea and had to return damaged, that`s the reason why she is so low in the water,
probably she did not fired any of her torpedos.
I have an original pic of U 170 and this is the same river, this boat also returned damaged on 03-08-1944,Lorient.
However,i am not 100% sure about the VII-C.
my best regards,
Ron.

Re: Type IX
Hi
My only doubt as to U 68 is, not known to have flotilla symbol, U 170 is listed as having one.
Regarding the type VIIc, am I correct that only, Howaldwerk,Flenderwerk and Danziger Werft had this arrangement of vents, i,e, pairs of two?
However cannot find a type seven that arrived around the 03/08/44 with U 170. Baffled!

Hi
Yes, I put Flenderwerk in my last post, should be Flenderwerft. Also add KRM Wilhelmshaven to list of paired.
Have mailed you what I think the two boats are.
Thanks
Nobby

Re: Type IX
Hi there,
I have not followed up the discussion on the pics taken at Lorient in summer 1943 while on holidays, but I am afraid it went somewhat astray.
The two boats can be clearly identified as U 759 and U 510 on 3 June 1943 while leaving the Scorff pen on patrol. I am sorry to say, but anything else is wishful thinking.
Best wishes

Re: Type IX
Great, great posting, Lionfish!
Merci, Monsieur Lionfish! Bon travaille!
And I agree with you that this is U 805, still as a training U-Boat and without the Schnelltauchback.
Great find, I am always surprised about the quality of material which still can be found these days!
