Hi all and happy New Year.
Still looking for information about U 953 and my uncle Hans Harder.
Anything is welcome.
Also, does anyone have any information about the Liberator bomber that attacked the boat (I think in the English channel)?
Thanks in anticipation.

Re: U 953
Hi all, still looking for info on U 953 and my uncle Hans Harder who was a crew member.
I have enclosed an image of Hans, a newspaper clipping from the Liverpool Echo, (don't know the year).
Also a certificate.
I would be grateful for a translation!

Re: U 953
Good Morning,
Your original query under this heading on 12 Feb 12 sought information about U 953 and your uncle Hans Harder.
You then repeated the question on 22 May 14 under the heading "U-Boats in the Royal Navy 1947-1947", to which I replied on 23 May 14 with information about U 953.
Your latest post on 25 Apr 15 says that you are still looking for information about U 953 and Hans Harder.
In response, whilst I know nothing about U 953's crew or your uncle, I do have information about U 953, if that would help.
As far as U 953's wartime service is concerned, there is a considerable amount of information on pages 188 and 189 in Volume 2 of Kenneth Wynn's 1998 book "U-Boat Operations of the Second World War".
When the war ended, U 953 surrendered in Trondheim (Norway), and I know quite a lot about it from then until it was finally scrapped in 1949.
You may however already know all there is to know about U 953's wartime and post-war history, in which case I won't repeat it here.
On the other hand, if your research during the past 3 years has come up with a total blank, then please let me know and I will see what I can do to help.
Yours aye,
Derek.
