Who decide the u-boat's camouflage ?

#1

Post by lionfish » 08 Aug 2014, 16:45

Hello,

Somebody knows who decide that camouflage can be applied on an u-boat ?

The commandant ?
The U-boat headquarters ( FdU ) ?
The both ?

And how the type of camouflage was choiced? For exemple U 218 had a camouflage on each sides of the deck and the conning tower painted only on dark grey. U 875 had a camouflage on the conning tower and on the each side of the deck.

U 2511 had the tower painted in white.

U 874 was full painted in white or in very light grey.

Best regards,

Lionfish.

Hi,
I presume the captain. Schnee's boat U 2511 was allegedly painted white referring to his name.....snow.

Regards,
Rand

Hello to all :D; bumping this up..................

U-boats that served in the Mediterranean.

Speaking of camouflage, what about the attempt to paint U-boats with a disruptive camouflage to make them more difficult to see? At what moment?
