I was reading this report on the lost of U 536 on Uboat archive and noticed that it mentions U 470 and that the survivors stated that the boat was covered in rubber and painted black.
This rubber covered boat is also mentioned in the interrogation report on U 593.

U 470 was alberiched in Bergen 14.9.43

HI

Thanks for that info Nobby this means the adhesive problem was solved before most writers say it was.
It also means it was the first known Alberich boat to be sunk be enemy action-I think!!

Hi,
New release of stock films to public forum. U-boats surrendering one of which is an Alberich boat probably
U 1105 some close ups of the deck and crew.

Hi, Reading the report on U 67 states in 1941 rubber strips were cemented to the boat as a experiment.

Also the boat is supposed to have spent eight days in Trondheim in august 1941-but this is
not mentioned.

Alberich received U 480, U 485, U 486, U 1105, U 1106, U 1107, U 1304, U 1306, U 1308, U 4704, U 4708 and U 4709.
Last 6 of them did not participate in patrols
