Type VII
Re: Type VII
Ron,
keep it as U 235, which is correct! Taken after second commissioning.
Best wishes
Axel
PS: the direction of the bars is unimportant. It matters, whether they are right or left hand side from the main emblem, regardless to the direction of view!

Re: Type VII
Hi
When researching a boat, always check out it's history here http://www.ubootarchiv.de/ubootwiki/ind ... Hauptseite
In German but can easily be translated on line.
You will find out what modifications were made i.e tower mods, snorkel fitted, recommission etc.
Very useful

Re: Type VII
Hi Ron,
this is going to become a long run! Sooner or later, I am afraid, you will get me on the wrong foot.
I am not absolute sure but I guess I have seen the top pic years ago in an auction for an album of U 618, taken on 11.11.43 at St. Nazaire.
Lower pic ist U 967 at Toulon on 17 May 1944.
No more tonight, please, as football is coming home!
Cheers

Re: Type VII
Would somebody translate the following and give some explanation please!
Many thanks
Nobby

Nobby,
translation here:
The patrol: U 255, commanded by Oberleutnant zur See d.R. Helmuth Heinrich, was four days at sea. The boat fetched fuel, lubricants, equipment and provisions from La Rochelle to St. Nazaire. These were to be used for fitting out U 255 and U 510. In addition, an unknown man came aboard, who, according to the Admiral, would be hanged immediately at the capitulation of La Rochelle.
Cheers

Re: Type VII
Thank you Axel
Your translation has opened more questions in my mind!
How do you hide on an U-Boat? Who was he?
Was he hanged?
Is this a possible war crime?
I think I had better stay with my amateur role on here and stick to trying to identifying old photographs!
!Danke Sehr
