I know the identity of the man in photo but want to know what details you can give regarding uniform,badges, rank, decorations etc.

Hi, The uniform is that of a Warrant Officer. The ribbon on the jacket is the Iron Cross Second Class and one of the badges on the far right of the jacket looks like the Wound Badge in Silver.

HI, Large badge is a destroyer badge-you can tell them from the fast boat badge as the national emblem (Eagle) on the first has folded wings
and on the second (fast boats) has spread wings.

I find it difficult to believe that the son of this sailor, who resides in Germany, has details of his father's training etc. but can not find out details of his service in any archive. He has written to a department in Berlin but they have been very slow to respond. Living in the U.K and not being able to find details of one's family who served in the services is unthinkable! Strange things happened to the records at the end of the war in Germany.
