Alberich or Tarnmatte

#1

Post by Stug50 » 15 Sep 2015, 12:34

I have just been reading about U 486 Type V11c and her exploits. I am sure that I read somewhere that U 486 had been coated in an anti-sonar coating. As far as I am aware there were two types of coating used on U-Boats (Alberich and Tarnmatte). Does anyone know which coating was used on U 486? Also, how successful were these coatings in reducing the U-Boat signature?

Regards

Reason: Again and again: Only correct is U 486 [without hyphen] - but the mistake will apparently never be accepted by our researchers in this thread

Hello Stug50,

Alberich was an anti-sonar coated on the hull and on the coning tower and the Tarnmatte was an anti-radar coated on the schnorchel head.

Best regards,
Lionfish.
