Hi Have seen another picture on E-Bay DE showing this structure with the water pumped out-also same writing on back of photo.

This then is probably the floating dock in Danzig- Gdansk.

The boat is a U 551 - U 650 series Blohm + Voss ranging from U 571 - U 601.

regards M Harrison.

Hi, Looking at pictures of the crew against others I would say this is U 576.

Hi To ID this boat I had to check the following. Look at the man in the middle, above him are three objects. The first being the ammo rack. The second being the two supporting rails for the wintergarden handrail. The distance and angle these rails are apart at the top sets it out as an early boat. Later boats were not as far apart at the handrail and around U 590 onwards started to get closer. Above this is the speaker bracket which looks like a upside down U.
This appeared on earlier boats like U 48,but mainly is seen on Blohm-Voss series 551-650. The two large horn like attachments-the aerial trunking, these are a solid indication of a Blohm-Voss boat. These appeared around U 570 onwards. The only other boat to have this type is U 701 if you go to this link you will see both U 701 sporting the new trunking and U 552 sporting the older type complete with speaker and bracket.

When you see the above trunking and the speaker bracket together you know you have a 551-650 series boat. U701 had an A shaped speaker bracket.
