Mallman Showell’s ‘U-boats at War’ relates how U 279 surfaced near Glettinganes, Iceland on 20 September 1943. Jens Fridriksson, a German secret agent, rowed a boat to shore.
The Polish U-bootwaffe website, reported U-boat 279’s captain, Otto Finke, setting out from Kiel at 08.00 on 4 September 1943 with orders to land Abwehr Eins Marine section agent Jens Peter Thomsen Fridriksson in Iceland.
Mallman Showell’s map showing U-boat landings in Iceland includes a Peter Thomsen as landed by U 289. I suspect this is an error.
Might anyone be able to determine whether Jens Fredriksson and Peter Thomsen are the same person. If so, which was there real name? Or are they two people?
I’m particularly interested in finding info on the background, selection and training for the mission.
