My grandmother came to America from this village in 1911 and I know there are still relatives in this area but have no idea how to search for them. I've read about the lumber camps and would like to know what life was like for villagers in that time period. Grandma corresponded with several relatives and I have old letters written in Polish which I do not speak. Does anyone know how I could research this? Many thanks, Luckyamm

It was in Austrian Poland, Galicia;
http://www.geog.port.ac.uk/hist-bound/c ... poland.htm
It is now in gmina (regional municipality), Majdan Królewski: in Polish, use google translator:
Index: http://www.majdankrolewski.pl/asp/pl_st ... 2&strona=1
history: http://www.majdankrolewski.pl/asp/pl_st ... 7&strona=1
Send an email, in English and Polish to: sekretariat@majdankrolewski.pl
Say you are looking for relatives, giving information about your family and last contacts there. Most of the population was relocated in WWII, by the Germans, but most came back.
Distribution of surnames by county:http://www.moikrewni.pl/mapa/
Surname must have diacriticals, and search female version separately.

Thank you! I will do research after the holidays when I have more time. My family is Catholic, but I know from an earlier search that there was a forced labor lumber camp there. I'm very curious to know how my family mrmbers lived with all this and I'm sure this will not be an easy topic to discuss if I can locate someone. Thank you so very much. AnnMarie

AnnMarie, please note that the correct name of the village is Huta Komorowska.
If you need help with translations of polish letters, I can help you if they are readable (it´s not my mother language).

Kind regards, Roman

PS.: Henryk speaks also very well polish, I guess (he has a polish name and the polish white eagle as avatar)

Polished google translation.

Majdan Royal - Former Nazi slave labor camp in Huta Komorowska
In April 1941, located west of Majdan Królewski, in the village of Huta Komorowska, the Nazis created a forced labor camp. In primitive huts built on the estate of Mary and Adam Kozłowieckich to September 1943, there were detained a group of about a thousand people of Jewish origin. Prisoners were recruited to work in the forest. During this, there were a number of executions. In the second half of 1943, the Germans killed all the Jewish workers. In their place, in October 1943, were brought about a hundred Poles. The camp operated until July 1944.

Can't believe it's almost a year since I've been here, and a very busy one. Mom died and I retired. Thank you for the replies. Glad I checked in. I have lots of questions about thid little village, My Primary one is how the Villages lived there with the labor camp. What was their life like? Were they perscuted badly? How did they survive? It's most likly a sensitive subject.

Simple answer is - they didn't. In 1940 the whole area was turned into a military training ground called Truppenubungsplatz Sud Deba, supposedly the largest in Europe at the time. The inhabitants of Huta Komorowska were resettled elseware.
