http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Yakov_Dzhugashvili
After an unsuccessful attempt to escape, was in 1942 transferred to a POW camp in the XZ Lübeck, where he met of Polish officers being held there (the Polish officers, under the command of Lieutenant Marian Więcliewicza, shared with the Red Cross food parcels and they assigned him as an orderly officer Cpl. Wladyslaw Chmieliński)
.

Do you know the corporal something more? He survived the war? Written memories?

Did you mean 'bastard', perhaps?

I've heard batman used as a synonym for orderly/assistant/adjutant to a higher-ranking officer. (In the past I've heard it referring often to WWI British officers, but I don't know what other armies used it.)

I have a feeling that's what the original poster is referring to - Yakov's adjutant.

Edit: Although that would be quite a twist - Stalin's son presumed dead, changes name to Bruce Wayne, and saves Gotham City.

Batman is not the same as adjutant.

A batman/orderly is basically any officer's servant - cleans his boots, fetches his lunch, does his laundry etc

An adjutant is a senior officer's assistant and will almost or always be an officer too.

But I concur that the first appears to be the meaning in the post.

Best wishes
K
