Hannover POW exchange

#1

Post by namor5 » 25 Feb 2017, 22:04

Hello. Trying to confirm some family history. My dad was captured by Russians in late 1939. He ended up in German Stalags. An old letter stated there was a POW exchange in Hannover between the Russian and Germans. It must have been a noteworthy event but I find no record of it. Must have occurred late 1939 or early 1940. Does anyone have any information on this exchange?

:welcome:

Following German-Soviet agreement from 16th of November 1939, some Poles were transferred by rail from Soviet camps to Hannover and then moved to Altengrabow and Fallingbostel, I know of.

Thanks for that information. The first Stalag recorded he went to was in Thorn, Poland. Seems he put on a lot of miles
