Can anyone supply details of this famous tank commande? So far I haven't been able to trace even his first name! He may have used a "nom-de-guerre"?

Hello Keith.
It's not a "nom de guerre", it's his real name but I don't know his first name. His rank is Second-Maître
He was the tancommander of the M-10 "Siroco" into the RBFM (Régiment Blindé de Fusiliers Marins) of the 2nd French Armored Division (Général Leclerc)

Merci Prosper,

I had not seen the photograph before. I wonder where he comes from? He looks like he is from the Orient, perhaps Polynesia or Indo China? The name made me think he was from the Franco-Belgian border because the name seems to be either Belgian or even Dutch?

best regards

Keith

Hello keith,
I have no information about him, but I think he was born in the Alsace-Moselle area or perhaps is father. His mother can be a native of the french colonies. I guess, because I am not sure at all.
It's also possible that he was born in "Brittany" or in the french colonies.
Sorry, but I haven't no further information
Kindly regards
Prosper

Hi,

Full name is Jean-Léonard Krokenberger according to 'Marins de France au combat' by Jean Mauclère, 1945.
