Saint-Valery-en-Caux (1940)
Does anyone know, which (British and French) generals were captured at Saint-Valery-en-Caux in 1940 by Rommel's 7th Pz.Div.?
According to Irving there were 12 captured generals. One Brit was Victor Fortune (51st Highland Div).
Was CO of 9th French Corps gen. Marcel Ihler also captured here?
Regards,
KK

Hello KK,
Yes indeed. General Marcel Ihler was also captured on the 12th of june 1940 at St. Valery en Caux.
He was a prisoner of war from that date until may 1945 (return to France on the 12th of may 1945)
He died in Paris on the 14th of april 1975 at the age of 95 years.
The french general Berniquet, commander of the 2° DLC (Division de Cavalerie Légère) (Light Cavalry Division) died on the 11th of june 1940 at St. Valery.
Ohter french generals captured at St. Valery:
Jacques Chanoine.
Paul Gastey.
Arsène Vauthier.
André Durand.
I don't know the name of other french or british generals who has been captured.
If you read a little bit french, here below you have a link:

OK, I found this article ( http://saintvalerymai1940.ifrance.com/les_acteurs.htm ), which lists OoB and 12 Allied generals. Can anyone confirm, that all 12 were captured/KIA at Saint-Valery-en-Caux?
