Maurice Chevalier

Postby Reichenberg 40 on 28 Apr 2012 14:54

Hello all,
I wanted to know if anyone could help me with some information about Maurice Chevalier during the War.
I was watching "The Sorrow and the Pity" where at the end Chevalier says he only went to Germany once to
sing in a POW camp to cheer up the French soldiers and that he never went again. Recently I was watching an
interesting documentary called "Nazi Collaborators", in particular an episode about Pierre Laval. Mentioned among
those collaborating with the Germans was Coco Chanel and again Maurice Chevalier. It was said that he DID go to
Germany to sing for the German soldiers. Does anyone know the true version of events?

Thanks

Good Morning Reichenberg,
Maurice was cleared of collaboration charges after the war. This is evidence he did not entertain gerrman or axis troops.
