France's relationship with Germany inter-war period?

Germany's relationship with Poland was as fragile as it had always been seeing as the age old war between the Germanic and Slavic peoples over their boarder. Germany's relationship with Britain was one where Britain would be an intermediary between Germany and whatever country it wanted land from to prevent war. However, most like my self haven't heard much about Germany's relationship with France. Did France wanted to make a pact between Poland and Britain to prevent German expansion through show of force or with force itself? Of course the latter succeed costly over the former in the end.

[Moved from "Was the alliance with the UK and France a mistake?"]
“The French intention in the event of a war between Germany and Poland was to stand on the defensive on the Maginot Line”.
Did France mean that if the possibility of war between it and Germany occured it would wait for a German attack and defend itself through the use of the Maginot Line?
Less than two weeks later a Polish military mission to France was told that the French would launch an offensive within fifteen days of war starting.]
Did France really plan pre-war to invade Germany if a state of war between the two came about? and was this the Saarland Offensive plan?
