Gentlemen,
In the Aéronavale the rank abbreviation of LV stands for Lieutenant (I think....?). What does the rank SM stand for?

I think that
LV = Lieutenant de Vaisseau and in the U.S. Navy it stands for Lieutenant. (Lieutenant in the U.S. Army)
SM = Second Maître and in the U.S. Navy it stands for Petty officer 3rd Class.( Sergant in the U.S. Army)
Sorry for my poor english
Kindly regards from Belgium
Prosper
