Re: The official AHF USA quiz thread
Thank You, von thoma. I am sorry my answer was somewhat inaccurate but I was on the right track I think. I also found a small reference to a "Zippo" tank also on the M4 chassis used at the end of the war. I assume it was based on the same principle.
For my question, who is the gentleman pictured below?
As a bit of background and to get some thinking going, he had a relatively minor position in one of the largest US programs of WWII.
He became suspicious of how the program was being used and kept 3 extensive diaries of what he saw going on.
After the end of the war, certain events took place and he made the contents of these diaries public and caused quite a stir.
I will let it go at that and see if we can get some discussion going.
Bill

The major event of the ones I was referring to was the development of the Atomic Bomb by the Soviet Union shortly after the end of the war.

Re: The official AHF USA quiz thread
My sincere apologies for not realizing that this question has been sitting here for almost 7 months now. I completely forgot I posted the question.
The correct answer is George R. Jordan.
He was a businessman who returned to the US military in WWII as a volunteer officer.
The majority of his time in WWII was spent serving at a US facility in Montana where he oversaw Lend Lease shipments to Russia that went via Alaska.
He kept quite extensive notes on this activity and after the end of WWII learned of Russia's new capability in the area of Atomic Weapons.
On checking his notes, he discovered that he had cataloged many instances of nuclear fission materials and information being supplied to the USSR via Lend Lease. He knew nothing about the subject until after the bombings in Japan and then realized that we had been helping the USSR to develop their own weapons.
He then exposed this information and much more by publishing his diaries and appearing before the US Congress.
I have attached a longer biography via Wikipedia that fills out the story.
The Quiz is now open again.

Re: The official AHF USA quiz thread
Hi von thoma
Good guess but no, not a Consolidated P2Y.
This was not a Consolidated product and was a true bi-plane.
regards

Hi A !
Thanks for taking care of the "time lag" here and with good question.
Well... time takes its toll, but otherwise OK. Hope you are well too.

Thanks Juha!
Have had him posted a few times myself
on various quizzes
So let's try this maritime guy next. Nothing special about him brsides his marriage to a factory worker who would become a very well known name and figure. So any ideas who he or especially she might be? Please feel free to post suggestions, clue questions or answers.

Re: The official AHF USA quiz thread
Hello Prosper! Not quite sure if your answers were great hints (a shortening of James and a "stupid blond") or something totally different...
If the first, then a great answer!
