According to the book Janusz Ledwoch and Jacek Solarz "Czolgi USA 1939-1945" in T10 and T10E1 tested 20-mm AA guns - Oerlikon, Hispano-Suiza, AN-M1 and AN-M2. Maybe in your photo half-track with HS gun. (I always get mixed up with 20-mm AA guns Oerlikon-Polsten-Hispano Suiza :( )

Dear S78,
It's a Harley Davidson, but I don't know the model number. If it were an Indian; there would be a gear shift near the handlebars.

Dear S78,
My pleasure; do you know when or where it was taken? It looks as if this MP may be with the US 2nd Cavalry Division as he is wearing Riding Breeches instead of standard trousers.

Trackhead:

The photo was taken at Columbus, Ga. April, 1942.
I have no knowledge about units but you can probably Google it somehow and come up with the unit.

A rather different military in those days.

Edit: I think that at that time, all motorcycle riders wore that style of trousers and the high boots, regardless of branch of service.

Hi Sturm:

According to my copy of TM 9-2800 of September, 1943, this is a Bomb Trailer M5.

Manufactured by: American Seating Company, Saginaw Stamping and Tool Company, Oneida Ltd. and Trailer Company of America.

An interesting feature is that the front hitch yoke could be reversed so it could hook up to the rear of another trailer or a road going prime mover truck. Thus it could be formed in "trains" and could also be towed at speeds up to 45 mph/75kph
on suitable roads.

Hi all,

I found this curious image on EBay. A jeep converted a railroad track with his trailer.
About the trailer it seems a standard MB-T or T3 trailer but with angular mudguards ?? :? Any idea?

Hi Sturm:

According to the same catalogue mentioned earlier, this is a "Trailer, Cargo, Amphibian, 1/4 ton". Manufactured by Willys Overland.

Aside from the modified mudguards, all other ID characteristics match this trailer perfectly.

I can only imagine this was a field modification or a repair replacement. Looking at all the materiel to be moved around in that yard, the vehicles must have had a hard life and could easily have been damaged. If that Ford box fell off the trailer it could easily damage the mudguards. As well, flat sheet metal would have been available for such a modification/repair whereas the curved mudguard would have been almost impossible to duplicate in the field.

Hi Sturm:

I am still working on the last two trailers, but trailers are not my area of interest.

For your last, I would bet they are Dodge 1 1/2 ton vehicles of the years 1933/1934 and probably based on the Island of Hawaii. The smaller cars in the background look to me like Chevrolet Suburbans of maybe 1937 or so.

Other opinions are always welcome, I am not a real expert.
