Re Post Number:#479 You are correct in your ID of the model but it cannot be Corregidor as only 12 inch m1890 and 1908 mortars were mounted there. From the curve of the concrete retaing wall in the front of the picture it can only be Battery Craighill, on Fort Hughes, on Caballo Island. This is another of the 4 US forts tha guarded Manila Bay and was the only one with M1912 mortar.

Re Post Number:#480
Pic 1 Once again you are correct. This is a 12 inch M1912 mortar or a carriage mortar m 1896 MIII. From the construction of the steps and terain which is visible I would say this is most likely Bty howard or Baird which were the mortar batteries on Fort Sherman at Colon Panama.
Pic 2 is a 6 inch gun M1908 mounted on a Carriage Dissappearing M1905, also present in Panama but there is not any clue on which Battery.
Pic 3 Appears to be a 14 in Gun M1907 mounted on a Carriage dissappearing M 1907 and if my ID is correct would be from battery Buell or Burnside, on Naos island Fort Grant, Balboa, Panama.

Hi all,

I am not sure about these guns:

First, I thought that both guns were 305mm 12in M1895 mounted on M1897 disappearing carriage US gun gun of Battery Stevenson, Fort Warren, Boston harbour defences but now I am not sure. :?

Image from EBay and the net
Thanks in advance. Sturm78

PIC 1 is definately a 12 inch m1895 gun on a carriage Dissappearing M1897 and the position and design of the steps in the background match my pics of Battery Stevenson today.

Pic 2 is however a 10 inch m1888 gun on a carriage dissappearing M1894 and from the distinctive shape of the hopst rooms in the background is very likely Battery Ward located on Fort Strong, Harbor Defenses of Boston.

Thank you very much for your help, ROLAND1369. :) It is a privilege to have you as a member of this forum !!

Here, another image that I found in the net (I do not remember th exact website)
According to photocaption, Fort Strong, Harbor Defenses of Boston

I think, therefore, 10in (254mm) shells on his ammo carts for M1888 guns of Battery Ward or Battery Hitchcock

Hi all,

Here, two new images from the net:

Image 1: According to photocaption Fort Andrews, Boston harbor defences. Therefore, I think 305mm 12in M1890 on Carriage M1896 US coastal mortars of Battery Cushing or Battery Whitman.

Image 2: According to photocaption Fort Standish, Boston harbor defences, so I think a 254mm 10in M1900 gun mounted on M1901 Disappearing carriage of Battery Burbeck or Battery Morris

re Post Number #488 You are correct in id of the projectiles. From an examination of the terrain in the background as well as the few visible features of the emplacement, this is in all likelyhood Bty Ward.

Re Post Number 489: You are correct these are technically 12 inch mortars m1890mI on carriage mortar M1896mI and from the shape of the front concrete this is the front pit of battery Hitchcock, Fort Andrews. You are also correct on both the ordinance ID and location of the second pic as this battery had a unique design and is indeed the 10 inch DC battery on Fort Standish. Unfortunatelythe emplacements are so close in design as to preclude an ID of which battery it is.

Post Number:#491 Pic no 1 ia a 14 inch DC m 1910 on a carriage DCLF m1907mI and could well be in Hawai and if so could only be Battery Randolph, Fort DeRussey, harbor defenses of HONOLULU. This is an early pic prior to 1920 as the mount has not been modified for increased elevation. Pic 2 14 inch railgun M1920.
