Help to Id. US artillery

As with a lot of these old captions this one is wrong. From the carriage design this is a 10 inch M 1888 gun on a Carriage Dissappearing Limited Fire M1896.

Hi all,

I found this image on EBay. I think 6in M1900 in M1900 Carriage. Is this correct ?
I suppose Battery Guthrie or Battery Rathbone

I concur with your ID of the weapon but the emplacement does not match any of the 6 inch batteries at San Francisco. It is not battery MCINDOE_RATHBONE at Fort barry as the stairway to the loading platform in your photo extends to the Magazine entrance while photo number 1 taken in 2006 show that the stairs on MCINDOE_RATHBONE terminate about 3 feet short of the entrance. Photo 2 of Battery Guthrie shows a completely different stairway as does photo 3 of Battery Chamberlain which had gun positions 1 and 2 converted to 6 inch M1900s. As these were the only three 6 inch M1900 in the Harbor defenses of San Francisco the photo can not be from there.

I recall a post being written earlier in this thread about the US 90mm M1 & M2 AA Guns, I have been reading up on these weapons and there is some data that I cannot locate, first the weight of these weapons, this what I can find;

90mm M1A1 Weight in Transit; 11.090 kg and Weight in Action; 8.618 kg.
90mm M2 Weight in Transit; 14.650 kg and Weight in Action; ???? kg.

These weights maybe be wrong, can anyone correct me?

The numbers of both weapons come to a total of 7.831, and I have heard that only 195 M2 were produced, that would give a total of 7.636 M1A1s, again is this correct?

The Attached photo is the official Weights page from TM 9-370, TM-9-370 ANTI AIRCRAFT GUN MATERIEL 90 MM AA GUN M1 AND M1A1 31 DEC 1942 and covers the weights of the 90 MM m1a1. The figures for production are 90 M1a1 w remote control, 6,169, m1a1 with manual control, 479, pre production 90 mm T2E1, 254, standard 90 MM M2, 575. source "OFFICIAL MUNITIONS PRODUCTION OF THE UNITED STATES, JULY 11940, AUGUST 31 1945. i WILL LOOK FOR THE OFFICIAL WEIGHT OF THE M2.

Your welcome Roland, there has been a couple of US Artillery questions that are still kicking about that no one seems to know the answers, no I am not talking about the weight of the 37mm M1A2 AA Gun in action, but the one concerning 105mm M3 Howitzer;
The M3 had three variants, M3, M3A1 & M3A3, now all three had different weights;

M3 – same carriage as the 75mm M3A3 Field Howitzer
M3A1 – new lighter carriage
M3A3 – fitted with Gun Shield

Now one weight is circulating around and that is 1.130 kg, now that maybe the weight of one of them (my money is on the M3A1) so what would be the weight of the other two?
The weights of course would be in action because I don’t think that they had a transit weight due to the fact that it weighed the same either way.

I am afraid that I have little info on the 105 MM m3 but will research it. However, as promised, here is the tabulated data on the 90 MM M2 aa gun. Source is "TM 9-372 90 MM Gun and Antiaircraft mount M 2, 15 Nov 1944".

This is the best info I can provide from my limited resources on th 105 MM m3. The firsr data is from "The Catalogue of Standard Ordinance Items, Second Edition 1944", the second is from "TM 9-2300 Standard Artillery and Fire Control Material, 7 Feb 1944"

Found one more bit of data. This is the data page from "TM 9-1326 Ordinance Maintaince, 105 MM Howitizer M3 and Howitizer Carriage M3 and M3a1, 20 Jan 1944. Of note in all of the official Publications there is no difference in weight between the M3 and the M3a1 carriages mentioned, so I doubt there is a difference.
