A friend on another site has her father's grav engraved with the following. "am mci us navy ww2". Any hints? In particular the "am mci". Thank you for your help! :D -David

Dear d,
Just an idea AM usually stands for Aviation Machinist. Was an aircraft mechanic?

I was thinking it is a misspelling, and should read AMM1C, which is Aviation Machinist Mate First Class. AMM was the rating before it was changed in 1947-48 to AD.
