Rickenbacker was born in 1890, so he's have been over 50 in WWII. Wiki shows his years of service as 1917-1919. The plane looks to be a Wildcat.

Rickenbacker did not fly combat in WWII.

The picture appears to be Robert Johnson. Who was the first US pilot to pass Rickenbacker's WWI record in WWII. Which probably explains the photo name research/edit error. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Robert_S._Johnson

Your post photo, and the second photo is Johnson- looks like a match to me. :) And the plane he flew was a P-47.
