M4A1(76)W armed with 76mm Gun M1A2???

Hello all,

I was just recently browsing images of the M4A1(76)W Sherman and found that about half of the M4A1(76)W Shermans were armed with the M1A2 version of the 76mm gun (the version of the 76mm with a two-bore muzzle brake). I thought that only M4A3(76)W tanks were armed with the M1A2, M4A1(76)W only got the M1A1?
Shooting 'em down in flames!

Nope, only the early production M4A1, M4A2, and M4A3 (76mm w) were armed with the unthreaded M1A1 gun, 385 of them. Afterwards, all production shifted to the threaded M1A1C/M1A2 gun.
