I'm looking for a list of personnel lost during US bombing of Wien on 12 Mar 1943. I came across an interrogation report of W-SS member, who claimed, that he was USAAF crew member (gunner on bomber), got shot down and then joined W-SS in Jan 1944.

Regards,
Klemen

Hi Klemen,

"Fold3" could have more information, have you tried searching his name there? Also, first attack on Vienna occurred on 17.3.44, with five planes being lost over the target (source: AHF member Vathra).

I assume he was one of the 26 Americans the Yugoslav Army captured in May 1945?

Cheers,

G.

Will take a look.

No, he deserted from Karstjäger to Slovenian Partisans. And he wasn't "proper" American. Was Hungarian, but had lived in US for several years before the war.

I found second interrogation report. Partisan learnt that he lied the first time.

He was Hungarian SS-Frw and spoke Hungarian, Italian, German, Serbo-croatian and some English. He was sent to partisans by the Gestapo in Gradiška to spy under pretense of being an Allied airman.

Mystery solved.

Klemen
