1st D.L.I were part of 22nd Guards Brigade in April 1941.

Were they Independent prior to that date?

What were their geographical movements from the outbreak of the war until then?

Hi David

They were part of 23 Brigade between 31/01/40-21/07/40 and again between 05/06/41-22/1/42 under HQ BTE in the former and 4th Indian ID, GHQ MEF, 6th ID and 1st Australian Corps for the latter period.

So we have a gap from 22/07/40-28/02/41 to fill

Regards

Andy H

Well 23 Brigade was originally known as the Canal Brigade in Egypt, but was redesignated as 23 Brigade & Suez Canal Area on 23/09/39. Intrestingly the Brigade was redesignated as HQ Suez Canal Sub Area on August 15th 1940 (when we lose the DLI), and wasn't reformed till May 5th'41 in Egypt.
