the 3/7th Rajput regiment:

1939 in Hyderabad, Sind Brigade then

Early 1940 Quetta, North West Frontier Quetta Brigade

October 1940 Port Tewfik Garrison

October 16th 1941 the 161st Brigade was reformed at Sidi Haneish, Egypt as the 161st Indian Infantry Brigade which now included the 3/7 Rajputs which had been on garrison duties at Port Tewfik for a year.

Embarked for Cyprus with the Brigade 6/11/41.

The Brigade (including 3/7 Rajputs) left Cyprus late March 1942 moving to to Qassassin Camp and then on
17/4/42 moved to Khataba.

Here 161st Indian Infantry Brigade was designated a motor brigade in february 1942. The 3/7 Rajputs began to re equip and train for this role reforming as a 3 company battalion, 2 of infantry in bren carriers and 1 of 2pdr AT guns towed by bren carriers.

30/6/42 161st Indian Motor Brigade joined 10th Armoured Division and moved up to the El Alamein line where it was used to dig ditches.

20/7/42 161st Indian Motor Brigade attached to 5th Indian Infantry division on Ruweisat Ridge.

The 3/7 Rajput were virtually wiped out during hand to hand fighting at Dier el Abydad.

161st Indian Motor Brigade was relieved 26/7/42 and the 3/7 Rajput, after rest and recovery was used a garrison at Aden and elsewhere in the Middle East for the next 3 years.
